World of Warcraft Priest Guide - Talent Builds
The World of Warcraft talent build sections will be split up in two categories, namely leveling builds and 70 builds, since “life at 70” is different when you’re ruling out that experience bar. If you want to create your own Talent Build, you can use our on-site Priest Talent Calculator.
Let’s take a look at what I find to be some good World of Warcraft priest talent builds:
World of Warcraft Shadow Priest Leveling Talent Build
Great for solo grinding/questing, poor for instancing
This spec will focus mainly on the Shadow tree, at least until level 52, when you can acquire Vampiric Touch. Because you’ll always have better DPS than a similar-level disc or holy priest, I consider this a quality grinding and questing build, although you might have some trouble finding a party for instances.
Levels 10-14 – Spirit Tap (5/5) Levels 15-19 – Improved Shadow Word Pain (2/2) and Shadow Focus (3/5) Level 20 – Mindflay (1/1) Levels 21-25 – Improved Mind Blast (5/5) Levels 26-27 – Shadow Reach (2/2) Levels 28-29 – Improved Psychic Scream (2/2) Level 30 – Vampiric Embrace (1/1) Levels 31-32 – Improved Vampiric Embrace (2/2) Levels 33-35 – Focused Mind (3/3) Levels 36-39 – Darkness (4/5) Level 40 – Shadowform (1/1) Level 41 – Darkness (5/5) Levels 42-46 – Shadow Power (5/5) Levels 47-51 – Misery (5/5) Level 52 – Vampiric Touch (1/1)
From level 52, you can either choose to spend some points in Shadow Weaving (it’s not THAT useful when you’re lower level by the way), or start building up in the Discipline tree, where you should aim for Inner Focus (1/1) and Meditation (3/3). Here’s how the spec should look like at level 69: Shadow Priest Leveling Talent Build
World of Warcraft Holy Priest Leveling Talent Build
Great for instancing, poor for grinding and questing
This talent build assumes that you’ll be spending most of your time gaining experience from instances, since it’s rather difficult to grind and even do some quests with this spec.
However, since most of the priests your level will be shadow spec, you won’t have to spend a lot of time looking for a group for an instance.
Levels 10-11 – Healing Focus (2/2) Levels 12-16 – Holy Specialization (5/5) Levels 17-21 – Divine Fury (5/5) Level 22 – Holy Nova (1/1) Levels 23-25 – Improved Renew (3/3) Levels 26-28 – Inspiration (3/3) Levels 29-33 – Wand Specialization (5/5) Levels 34-35 – Improved Power Word: Fortitude (2/2) Levels 36-38 – Improved Power Word: Shield (3/3) Level 39 – Inner Focus (1/1) Levels 40-42 – Meditation (3/3) Levels 43-44 – Holy Reach (2/2) Level 45 – Spirit of Redemption (1/1) Levels 46-50 – Spiritual Guidance (5/5) Levels 51-55 – Spiritual Healing (5/5) Levels 56-58 – Holy Concentration (3/3) Levels 59-63 – Empowered Healing (5/5) Level 64 – Circle of Healing (1/1)
When you reached 64 in this spec, feel free to go deeper in the discipline tree with the rest of your points. Here’s how the spec looks like at level 69: Holy Priest Leveling Talent Build
World of Warcraft Priest Trispec Leveling Talent Build
The Trispec build was a valid option for World of Warcraft priests even before The Burning Crusade, but now it’s more useful because you can combine some critical talents in all trees.
Our goal with this spec is to reach Divine Spirit in Discipline, Holy Nova in Holy and Mind Flay in Shadow. The order in which you get to them is important though.
Levels 10-14 – Spirit Tap (5/5) Levels 15-19 – Improved Shadow Word Pain (2/2) and Shadow Focus (3/5) Level 20 – Mindflay (1/1) Levels 21-25 – Improved Mind Blast (5/5) Levels 26-30 – Wand Specialization (5/5) Levels 31-32 – Improved Power Word: Fortitude (2/2) Levels 33-35 – Improved Power Word: Shield (3/3) Level 36 – Inner Focus (1/1) Levels 37-38 – Healing Focus (2/2) Levels 39-43 – Holy Specialization (5/5) Levels 44-46 – Improved Renew (3/3) Level 47 – Holy Nova (1/1) Levels 48-50 – Meditation (3/3) Level 51 – Martyrdom (1/2) Levels 52-56 – Mental Agility (5/5) Level 57 – Divine Spirit (1/1) Levels 58-59 – Improved Divine Spirit (2/2)
(You can choose to build up any of the three specs now, I usually go with Discipline to reach Power Infusion, but just as well you could go for Spirit of Redemption, or the Tier 5 Shadow talents)
Levels 60-64 – Mental Strength (5/5) Levels 65-66 – Force of Will (2/5) Level 67 – Power Infusion (1/1) Levels 68-70 Force of Will (5/5)
Here’s the final build: Priest Trispec Leveling Build
World of Warcraft Priest - Level 70 Builds
World of Warcraft Level 70 PVE Holy Priest Talent Build
20 Discipline / 41 Holy
This build is meant for the perfect PVE healbot priest and it’s based around cheap and effective instant cast spells such as Renew but it’s also good for those priests using combinations of Flash Heal, Heal or Greater Heal. Have fun: PVE Holy Priest Talent Build
World of Warcraft Level 70 PVE Shadow Priest Talent Build
14 Discipline / 47 Shadow
Shadow priests have an increased role in PVE in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade and this is one of the best talent builds a PVE shadow priest can get. Great DPS, combined with Vampiric Embrace and Vampiric Touch, a hint of mana regeneration from the Discipline tree and allowing mages and warlocks to do more damage to your target…what more can you ask? Build: PVE Shadow Priest Talent Build
World of Warcraft Level 70 PVP Discipline Priest Talent Build
44 Discipline / 17 Holy
This is one of the best PVP builds a priest can have and if you play it right, you have a good chance of winning a duel against almost any opponent with equal gear. In addition it’s an excellent support class for Arena teams as you have a lot of survivability and can also dish out a good burst of quick damage with the help of Power Infusion. Rogues will hate you; here’s the build: PVP Discipline Priest Talent Build
World of Warcraft Level 70 PVP Shadow Priest Talent Build
11 Discipline / 50 Shadow
This is one heck of a meltfacer build. Given the right gear, you can do some insane damage to your opponents and you’ll also have some crowd controlling tricks up your sleeve, such as Silence or Improved Psychic Scream.
The 11 points in Discipline offer you a bit more survivability and also give you that no-mana Mind Blast crit from Inner Focus that can prove decisive in a one-on-one, or in an Arena. Enjoy: PVP Shadow Priest Talent Build
World of Warcraft Level 70 PVP Holy Priest Talent Build
21 Discipline / 40 Holy
In one-on-ones, this spec is almost useless, despite the fact that it’s based around survivability. However, in Battlegrounds and Arenas this is a great support build.
In BG's and Arenas, a World of Warcraft holy priest will get hit first and this spec will keep you alive as it focuses on Flash Heals rather than Renews or Greater Heals, since you'll mostly be using this type of heals in such a PVP environment. Build: PVP Holy Priest Talent Build
