Only a few of the craftable items useful to mages are non-tailoring ones in World of Warcraft. Your biggest setback for not being a tailoring mage is the inability to make Robes of the Archmage, which is a tailoring Bind on Pickup item, therefore it cannot be simply bought off the AH with WoW gold, like most of the other items in this list:

Bind on Equip items can drop in various zones of World of Warcraft's Azeroth, some depending on the actual zone you're in, others on the level of the mob you've just killed. Regardless, if you're not as lucky as to get these BoE mage items to drop when they're useful to your level, you can always buy them off the Auction House, provided you have the right amount of World of Warcraft gold in your pockets.
